Thank you very much ladies for your explanations, suggestions and great ideas!
I am starting to realize that the stuff we have here readily available is definitely the desiccated stuff as it is quite dry and not sweetened at all.
I googled the brand suggested in the recipe 'Baker's Angel Flake Coconut' and it seems to be an American product that is not that readily available in the US either (spot on Markella!) let alone London where the Tea House from which this book is derived from is!http://www.amazon.com/Bakers-Angel-Flak ... _sbs_gro_1
Still it looks like the sort of product none of us would mind having in our pantry....sigh, if only!
There is one supermarket here in Beirut that is known for stocking American brands, I might have a look there, or else go with Tassiedevil's great idea!
Still girls, this book 'Tea with Bea' is such a lovely read, I have been looking through it every night before I sleep and it is full of very useful information and tips. Plus, what struck me most when I was considering buying it is that she uses all the ingredients I use when baking or making puddings! i.e: The use of Yogurt in baking and the use of Bourbon in most of her cheesecakes, cakes and tarts, really sold the book for me as I LOVE Bourbon's caramel flavor.
Anyway, just wanted to point it out and when I finally get cracking and bake something from it, I will definitely tell you all about it!
Thx again for all your help!
